Check out this old school rap mix, bringing back memories!

Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry got together to produce the first Dead Can Dance album; Anastasis. The name of the album means resurrection in Greek, a suitable title as it is their first album in 16 years!.. The 8-track album was launched yesterday and it is now available to order.

The sound of the album is no different really than what they used to do. But I guess that's a good thing, as it is that sound that Dead Can Dance fans would expect. There is a sense of melancholia and mysticism throughout with Middle Eastern and Gaelic influences. It brings listeners a feeling of nostalgia and at the same time prepares them for something bigger. And what beautiful artwork?! It's a piece of art!

Dead Can Dance have announced a tour in North America to present
the album; I really do hope they come to Europe as well! I guess we'll
have to wait and see!

The full album can be streamed here.

The radio edit version (not featured in the album) of Amnesia, can be downloaded here for free.
This is such a unique band that I like so much! Formed in London in 1994 and still going on, over the years they have released over 10 albums (excluding the live ones!) and more than 20 singles. You Make me Feel was first released in 1999, as the 1st track of Take My Head. The band is still touring, mainly in Europe, with 3 upcoming gigs in France, and there are rumours they are working on their next album, expected to be released in 2012!

You may want to put the volume up for this one!

Saying that, on Saturday night I thought the venue actually wasn't bad at all! The security was nice and polite, the bar staff the same and the sound really good as well!

Redshape played for just over 1 hour. Really nice set, I was at the front the whole time dancing by the speaker. The crowd was cool and seemed to be enjoying the music, Redshape seemed to be happy behind his laptop, dancing here and there. Overall really nice night. The guy that played before Redshape was also pretty good, no idea who it was though..

Here's a mix from Redshape, available as a free download, about 2 years old, but I still like listening to it.
I keep saying to myself I will never go back there, but they always bring good acts... so I keep going back... We got there at 4am and stayed until just before 6.30am. Efdemin played a super nice set; dark, industrial and quite repetitive, in a positive way of course! Even though I really enjoyed the music, I avoided going to any other room, I didn't manage to get into it. I found the crowd, as always, distracting, mainly made of students, tourists, and non music lovers... Not really there for the music, rather because Fabric is the only club they know in London. I really hope Efdemin recorded the set, so I can listen to it at home while partying with my mates!

Oh yes... we also got there just before Skudge finished his set. I would have enjoyed that a lot! I did enjoy a lot the 15mins I heard! Such a shame we are always late...

Well Philippe Petit, DJ and founder of Knotweed Records, has been preparing his second release on his own label; a 3 track EP named Invasion. Here's a teaser for your musical pleasure... Another great piece of work from Petit!
I had previously posted a teaser of Deluge; track 1 of the EP, but I was just listening to Duel; track 2 of the EP, which without a doubt made me buy the record!
Here's the track, so you can see for yourselves...

On a different note... Went to buy it online from Soho based Black Market Records, where it would cost me £14. Getting it from Berlin based Monkeytown Recors though cost me 13EUR (that would be £11). How often do I find myself debating... Should I be buying local or go for cheaper?..
friedbriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09675300411498343065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8369619719790114836.post-66192684833115516012011-12-23T23:54:00.000+00:002011-12-23T23:54:25.203+00:00Nicolas Jaar new EP

This is the new, available as a free download and soon as a limited edition vinyl, 2 track EP from 21 year old Nicolas Jaar. Been listening to the latest Pinch and Shackleton release. I love every single track on the album! It's been a while since I listened to something I enjoyed so much! Then again, it was expected, put Pinch and Shackleton together and there is no way it can go wrong.

One of the best gigs I've been to! KOKO was packed! Tinariwen played for about 1.5hrs, they had such good energy, the crowd loved it! Everyone was dancing and clapping, such a good vibe! It was almost emotional seeing everyone so into it and also such a mixed crowd, everyone loving it! Another super successful Soundcrash event!
It is already available to be streamed in full though. So this morning I had a listen... and what do I think? Not impressed, I'm afraid... The album consists of 12 tracks. It starts fine with 1.Intro and it finishes fine with 12.The Magic Causeway. Now tracks 2, 4, 9 and 11 are all super cheesy with lots of horrible vocals... 8.Lost adds some unexpected R&B to the album and for something a bit more positive there is a pretty cool grime track 10.Back in the Days.
I wish I had something more positive to say about this album, but unfortunately I don't; I won't buy it and hopefully will never listen to it again.
friedbriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09675300411498343065noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8369619719790114836.post-41482671868134410722011-10-26T13:15:00.001+01:002011-10-26T13:19:07.216+01:00Tony Lionni

British DJ and producer, Tony Lionni is the latest addition to the Modelisme Records family. The day of the gig my mate called me to tell me they had an extra ticket for the gig and if I wanted to go, I said... why not?! I'm so glad I said yes! No support group, which was definitely a positive, Seasick Steve was on stage for about 2hrs, and alongside him there were a couple of pretty cool appearances; John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin and Paloma Faith.

The gig was so nice! Seasick Steve and his band gave such a nice performance. The drummer was so cool, you could tell he was really enjoying it! John Paul Jones went on stage after the first track and stayed till the end, playing his bass and the mandolin. Paloma Faith sang on a few songs including the last one; Dog House, which seemed to drag and drag!.. He also got his three sons on stage; apparently one has written Whiskey Ballad, the other one has done the artwork for his albums and the third one has produced all his albums or maybe just the last one. Oh yes, at some point he got this girl on stage to sing a ballad to her, how funny! and a bit awkward...
