New Dead Can Dance Album

Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry got together to produce the first Dead Can Dance album; Anastasis. The name of the album means resurrection in Greek, a suitable title as it is their first album in 16 years!.. The 8-track album was launched yesterday and it is now available to order.

The sound of the album is no different really than what they used to do. But I guess that's a good thing, as it is that sound that Dead Can Dance fans would expect. There is a sense of melancholia and mysticism throughout with Middle Eastern and Gaelic influences. It brings listeners a feeling of nostalgia and at the same time prepares them for something bigger. And what beautiful artwork?! It's a piece of art!

Dead Can Dance have announced a tour in North America to present the album; I really do hope they come to Europe as well! I guess we'll have to wait and see!

The full album can be streamed here.

The radio edit version (not featured in the album) of Amnesia, can be downloaded here for free.

New release from Philippe Petit

So what's been happening in Chamonix since the last release of Myk Derill on Knotweed Records? Well Philippe Petit, DJ and founder of Knotweed Records, has been preparing his second release on his own label; a 3 track EP named Invasion. Here's a teaser for your musical pleasure... Another great piece of work from Petit!

Marcel Dettmann's latest release

As already mentioned in a previous post, Marcel Dettmann released on 2 Dec his latest 2 track EP on 50 Weapons. I had previously posted a teaser of Deluge; track 1 of the EP, but I was just listening to Duel; track 2 of the EP, which without a doubt made me buy the record!

Here's the track, so you can see for yourselves...

On a different note... Went to buy it online from Soho based Black Market Records, where it would cost me £14. Getting it from Berlin based Monkeytown Recors though cost me 13EUR (that would be £11). How often do I find myself debating... Should I be buying local or go for cheaper?..

Nicolas Jaar new EP

This is the new, available as a free download and soon as a limited edition vinyl, 2 track EP from 21 year old Nicolas Jaar. I find both tracks really atmospheric, awakening nostalgic feelings inside me. These spasmodic noises make me feel like I am part of a journey. The first track is slightly more to my liking, though the second one has some really nice melodies.

Pinch and Shackleton release

Been listening to the latest Pinch and Shackleton release. I love every single track on the album! It's been a while since I listened to something I enjoyed so much! Then again, it was expected, put Pinch and Shackleton together and there is no way it can go wrong.

Joker's new album

Joker's new album, The Vision, is released on 31st October. It is already available to be streamed in full though. So this morning I had a listen... and what do I think? Not impressed, I'm afraid... The album consists of 12 tracks. It starts fine with 1.Intro and it finishes fine with 12.The Magic Causeway. Now tracks 2, 4, 9 and 11 are all super cheesy with lots of horrible vocals... 8.Lost adds some unexpected R&B to the album and for something a bit more positive there is a pretty cool grime track 10.Back in the Days.

Now as for the cover artwork...I think it's also horrible...

I wish I had something more positive to say about this album, but unfortunately I don't; I won't buy it and hopefully will never listen to it again.

Myk Derill releases new EP

DJ and producer, Myk Derill is releasing his new EP, Enclosure, on 15th November on Knotweed Records. This is the second release of the recently launched french label, though Derill has already had a few releases on several other labels. Derill plays some pretty dark techno, influenced by the scene in Berlin, where he is based. I look forward to getting the EP once it's out!

Philippe Petit releases his first EP

Philippe Petit launched his first EP on 30th September on his own label Knotweed Records, which was also launched this September. Rain In The Valley, available to buy on Juno, consists of three tracks, which should really be listened to on a big sound! I can so imagine myself dancing to this in a club! I think my favorite is Above, although I keep changing my mind... it could be Rain In The Valley...

Modeselektor new realease...

...out today! My pre-ordered copy arrived this morning at 8.30am and I'm listening to it as I type! Monkeytown is a limited edition, signed and hand numbered by Modeselektor; mine is number 354. Such high quality finish; hard cover book with black and white photos, signed and numbered by hand, 2 LPs in clear vinyl, it's all so beautifully made with such attention to detail!

A side really nice, could listen to it over and over again. B side starts with Evil Twin which I thought was a really good track! C side... not my favorite, not even close, don't really like the vocals. The last track is better than the first ones, but still not my thing. D side, like the first track a bit of rap going on there, which I think works quite well and these vocals that so rarely agree with me... here they don't bother me much. And the rest of the side is nothing too impressive either, but I don't dislike it either.

Overall, really happy I got this! Love the 1st LP, not super keen on the 2nd, but such beautiful cover, keep wanting to touch it!..

So looking forward to seeing him at Corsica Studios on 28 October; great venue, great lineup! Definitely one not to be missed!

Battles at ICA

The Battles... I have been following them for quite a few years now, I think probably from the very beginning... I first saw them about 8-9 years ago, if I remember well, at the then dark basement gig space, now quite a trendy road level bar; Bardens Boudoir, in Stoke Newington and then again in 2009 at the Warp20 party at The Coronet.

Tonight they are playing their sold out gig at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. This gig marks the long awaited finish of recording their new album; Gloss Drop, which is to be released on 6th June. The last 2 years have seen the band struggling with finishing this album and losing their vocalist, Tyondai Braxton. I think tonight will be very interesting to see how they perform without Braxton and I'm also really looking forward to listening to the tracks they made with guest vocalists and of course to know which these guest vocalists are. Here is one of the tracks of the new album...

Ice Cream (Featuring Matias Aguayo) by BATTLES

Good news for all of us that didn't manage to get tickets for tonight is that... on Saturday 9 April the Battles announced a new London Show! It will be at Heaven on 8 June and it's not sold, that is... not yet! So go grab those tickets, I've already got mine!

And if you are interested in seeing what Tyondai Braxton is doing these days, you can catch him on 7 May at the Barbican, where he will be performing at the Reverberations: The Influence of Steve Reich - Session 3.

Animal Collective and Keep

Teaser video of the new collaborative project of Animal Collective and Keep; a Los Angeles based ethical shoes company. The collection; launched on March 26th, is in support of the Socorro Island Conservation Fund. Each member of Animal Collective designed a pair of shoes and produced a solo track to go on a limited number 4-track tape available with shoe orders. The tracks can also be downloaded even though it would be great to have the original tape! Deakin's track is doing it more for me than the others, althought I think they are all quite good and more or less what you would expect from each of them.

Prefuse73 new release & free download

Prefuse73 is releasing his new LP The Only She Chapters on Warp on April 25th/26th. The 18 track LP features a number of different female vocalists, who all add to his unique sound. Apparently, the whole LP has a female element from the vocalists he's using to the artwork of the cover...

Prefuse 73 'The Only She Chapters' Album Sampler by Warp Records

Also on offer as a free download is the 5th track of the LP, featuring Shara Worden!

From what I've heard, it all sounds like his usual atmospheric stuff, so nothing new really, but I'm sure it will be really good and I can't wait to get my hands on it!
